MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia anticipates that its 2026 grain harvest will reach approximately 140 million tonnes as farmers approach the final phase of the season. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev stated that growers have already gathered more than 126 million tonnes of grain. As of October 2, they had threshed around 90% of the cultivated area. Additionally, officials project the country will harvest about 35 million tonnes of oilseeds this year.

These figures represent an increase from early September, when Russia had harvested 113.5 million tonnes of grain. Oilseed collection now totals approximately 15 million tonnes. Farmers in the organized sector have also collected nearly 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a comparable amount of vegetables. Russian authorities indicated that yields across most crop categories are exceeding their 2025 levels as work continues across various producing regions.
The Ministry of Economic Development forecasts a slightly higher 2026 grain output of about 141.8 million tonnes. Meanwhile, Rosstat reported a 2025 harvest of 141.2 million tonnes based on its territorial calculations. During an April government meeting, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut announced a 2025 total of 144.6 million tonnes, describing it as the third-largest grain harvest in the nation’s history. In 2024, Russia harvested nearly 130 million tonnes of grain.
Harvesting enters its concluding phase
Patrushev noted that the pace of harvesting aligns with the government’s current projections for major crops. The Russian government has continued supporting farmers during this autumn field season. About 10 billion rubles have been allocated to subsidize transportation from key grain-producing regions. The export duty on grain has been suspended through the end of 2026, and duties on vegetable oil and meal are capped at August levels.
According to officials, winter sowing has surpassed the halfway mark of the planned area. Regional authorities have been urged to monitor planting progress closely, especially for winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry previously reported that farmers intend to sow more than 19 million hectares with winter crops. Authorities also emphasize maintaining farm supplies of machinery, seed, fertilizer, and other necessary resources for the seasonal work ahead.
Recent harvests remain near historic highs
Russia’s recent grain yields have stayed large by historical standards. In 2023, the country produced about 143 million tonnes of grain. Its 2022 harvest reached a record 157.676 million tonnes. The current forecast of around 140 million tonnes is below both those totals but remains above the nearly 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. The final 2026 grain figure has yet to be announced, as harvesting continues in several regions.
This season also highlights the scale of Russia’s broader crop production. Alongside grain, officials expect oilseed output to reach approximately 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers are still gathering vegetables and potatoes as regional work completes. At the same time, winter planting for the upcoming cycle is progressing while farmers finish the remaining 2026 harvest. The government’s official projection for the total grain harvest remains at 140 million tonnes.
