Swedish Industrial Output Declines Despite Surge in Orders During June Month

    August 11, 2026

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Official data indicated that Sweden’s industrial production contracted by 1.5% in June compared to the same month last year. Additionally, after seasonal adjustment, output dipped by 0.4% from May, signifying a weaker month for the country’s manufacturing sector. Statistics Sweden published these figures in its June Production Value Index report. The industrial index was at 112.4, a decline from 112.9 in May, with 2021 serving as the baseline of 100.

Sweden industrial output falls as June orders surge
Sweden’s industrial output fell in June while industrial orders recorded strong gains.

This annual downturn followed a revised 7.6% rise in May. Manufacturing output decreased 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying dropped 13.8%. On a month-to-month basis, manufacturing shrank by 0.4%, and mining and quarrying fell by 3.3%. Industry contributed 20.2% to the broader private-sector measure for 2025. Manufacturing made up 19.4 percentage points of this share, highlighting its dominance within the industrial sector.

The decline in June did not negate the gains recorded in the second quarter. The average industrial production from April through June was 4.0% higher than in the same period of 2025. Seasonally adjusted figures also showed a 4.8% increase from the previous three months. Broader private-sector output in Sweden rose by 0.4% from May and 1.8% compared to the same month last year. This wider measure encompasses industry, services, construction, and certain utility activities.

Weakness in industrial output contrasts with overall economic growth

Services sector output declined 0.2% from May but grew 3.0% compared to June 2025. Construction activity increased by 2.0% month-on-month and 7.6% year-on-year. The services index stood at 111.9 in June, down slightly from 112.1 in May. Construction rose to 94.9 from 93.0. Services constituted 67.2% of the broader measure, while construction accounted for 8.4%.

In separate June data, Statistics Sweden revealed that total industrial orders jumped 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar-adjusted basis, orders increased 29.9% from June 2025. Export orders rose 56.5% month-on-month and 57.6% from a year earlier. Domestic orders, however, edged up 0.1% from May but declined 7.4% annually. For the first half of 2026, total orders were 4.0% higher than in the same period of 2025, with export orders rising 6.6%.

Exports Grow as Domestic Orders Experience Yearly Decline

Transport equipment saw the largest surge among key order categories in June. Orders in this segment increased by 101.0% from May and 118.2% from the same month last year. Manufacturing orders expanded 33.2% on a monthly basis and 31.2% annually. Capital-goods orders rose 45.5% from May and 50.7% from June 2025. In contrast, mining and quarrying orders declined 1.8% monthly and 19.0% from the previous year.

The releases on production and orders analyze different facets of industrial activity. The Production Value Index reflects monthly shifts in private-sector manufacturing of goods and services, measured in constant prices. Meanwhile, the orders series tracks short-term fluctuations in new industrial orders across both domestic and export markets. Revised figures may result from new information. The upcoming reports are scheduled for September 10 and will include data for July 2026.
